# Marketplace API Safety: How a Bad Automated Price Rule Can Push Your Store Into Losses

A safety checklist for wrong competitor prices, API limits, conflicting integrators and unapproved price updates.

## Short answer

The core safety risk in automated pricing is a wrong price signal written to the marketplace without a check. A rule that blindly follows a competitor price showing $50 instead of $500 can publish a loss-making offer if there is no price floor or approval step. XPrice keeps analysis, price recommendation and price execution in separate layers. API permissions, the minimum margin lock and the approval flow are part of the operational controls.

## How does a wrong price go live at midnight?

Say a competitor's $500 product shows up as $50 because of an API or data matching error. A "stay one dollar below the competitor" automation fires. Without a minimum price and data validation, the recommendation can fall to $49. You need manual approval or another technical brake before sales start.

## Read-only analysis vs. price write permission

Reading product and competitor prices through an API is not the same as sending a price update to the marketplace. In XPrice, review analysis and decision logging separately from active price execution. Check the real permission scope of the API key you set up in the provider's panel. A "read-only" label alone is not proof.

## Integrator conflicts and API rate limits

- Who is the primary price writer for each SKU: your ERP, your integrator or XPrice?
- Are minimum and maximum prices and a sensible change percentage enforced?
- Are zero values, currency errors, outliers and stale data filtered out of the competitor price signal?
- Is there user approval, transaction history, rollback and error alerting?
- Are API request limits measured per channel and per account?

## Reasoned decision first, execution second

Applying a recommendation directly, without showing its profit impact, demand assumption and source data, is risky. Choose your price execution preference with the Read-Only Shadow, Approval or Autopilot mode.
